Ear Training Workshop 2: Develop Your Listening Skills 

• This intensive workshop is designed to sharpen your aural skills and deepen your musical understanding through focused listening and singing exercises 

 

• II. What You Will Learn (Course Content) 

• The syllabus covers a comprehensive range of topics to integrate listening and practical application in both Indian and Western musical contexts:

Key Topics 

• Aural Foundations & Practice 

Swar Sadhana (the deep understanding of naad), Singing intervals/chords, Understanding chords progressions by ear, and Listening out of the scale chords. 

• Indian Music Concepts 

Understanding Raga scales and raga-based Hindi songs, and identifying common chords within Raga scales. 

• Harmony & Chords 

Understanding chords and chord progressions; a step-by-step guide on how to apply chords; using advanced chords on songs; and understanding and using inversions in songs. 

• Theory & Application 

Comprehensive understanding of melody and rhythm; Improvisation; finding SA in songs; and understanding and listening to scale changes. 

• Instrumental Technique 

Playing in all 12 scales. 

 

I. Who Should Enroll? 

• This workshop is ideal for: 

• Music Students of All Levels: Anyone looking to significantly enhance their listening and recognition abilities. 

• Musicians: Singers, instrumentalists, composers, and all individuals interested in developing a highly perceptive musical ear. 

• Prerequisite Knowledge: Participants should have basic or intermediate musical knowledge. This course is not suitable for absolute beginners. 

 

• III. Course Structure and Logistics  

• Course Series: This workshop is part of an independent series of modules. Each course is a distinct unit and does not represent a sequential level. You are welcome to enroll directly in any available module at any time. 

• Language: The instruction will be delivered primarily in Hindi with some English terminology. 

 

• Materials Needed: 

• Any musical instrument you play (e.g., Keyboard, Piano, Harmonium, MIDI keyboard). 

• Notebook and pen for theory and ear writing practice.
